Support Us

We are a wholly volunteer run organisation – the Whimple History Society does not have any paid staff.  All the objects which we have on display, and all of the photographs and documents in our archive, have been given to us by members of the public and our supporters.

100 Club

100 Club membership is open to everyone – you do not have to be a History Society member. For an annual payment of £5 made to the Whimple History Society Treasurer you will be entered into 4 draws each year. There are 3 prizes for each draw with a total value of £70. The membership year starts on 1st April, and draws take place at Society events. Winners are notified after the draw.

Whimple History Society is a registered charity (Charity Registration Number 1051725). The Heritage Centre 100 Club is registered with East Devon District Council.

Make a Donation

We are always very grateful for donations. By donating you are helping us to continue our work preserving the history of Whimple and making it available to future generations.

You can donate in person when the Heritage Centre is open either in cash or by credit card.

Cheques should be made payable to Whimple History Society and handed to the steward on duty during opening hours, posted through our letterbox, or mailed to Whimple Heritage Centre, Lockyers Linhay, Church Road, Whimple, Devon EX5 2TA.

If you would like to donate by bank transfer then please then please use the Contact Us form and our Treasurer will get back to you.

You can also donate via PayPal using the Donate button located at the top of page.

We also appreciate donations of objects, documents or photographs relating to Whimple. If you wish to donate any of these items then it is best to use the Contact Us form in the first instance explaining what the item is that you wish to donate. Our storage space is limited, which means that we cannot accept all the items which are offered to us. Our curator or archivist will let you know whether or not we are able to accept your item.

If you have any unwanted gifts or other nearly new items then please consider donating them to us for use in one of our raffles. We hold a raffle at most of our events, and they are a popular way to raise funds. Items for our raffles can be brought into the Heritage Centre during normal opening hours, or handed to a committee member at one of our events.

Fundraising

Fundraising can be fun, it can be a challenge, it can be a great way to make new friends. Do you have a fundraising idea that would help us?

Maybe you would like to organise a coffee morning, or run a marathon. You could do a sponsored bike ride or hike.

You might prefer to help with one of our regular fundraising events. In the summer we usually hold a Treasure Hunt and there is a cream tea in September. Our apple pressing event is popular in October, and January sees the annual Wassail. Some years we hold an Auction of Pledges and Promises, which has been very successful.

All of these events raise much needed funds which make a difference to the history of Whimple. Please contact us if you can help in any way.

Leave a Gift in Your Will

We have already achieved so much thanks to the generosity of those who love Whimple’s heritage, but there is still more to be done. Make Whimple’s history part of your life story by leaving us a gift in your will.

You can remember us in your will in a number of different ways:

  • You can leave us a gift of a specific item such as a piece of furniture or jewellery. If our curator considers it appropriate then we might add your gift to our collection and display it from time to time. If not, then we might sell it and use the proceeds to support our work.

  • You can leave us a sum of money or a percentage share of your residuary estate.

We greatly appreciate all the gifts which are left to us. If you would like to remember us in your will then please give your solicitor or will writer the following information:
