Our Collection

About half of our collection comprises objects related to Whiteway’s Cyder Company, such as examples of their products and advertising materials. We are particularly proud of our collection of cooper’s tools and the eighteenth century Pomona book.

The remainder of our collection relates mainly to the social history of Whimple during the twentieth century. We have a small display devoted to Whimple’s most famous inhabitant, Ann Hogarth, the Muffin the Mule puppeteer.

Children's Quizzes

We have two free quizzes available for our younger visitors to keep them occupied whilst you visit the Whimple Heritage Centre.

One is aimed at children aged up to 6 years old, and the other is aimed at 7-12 year olds.

These quizzes are available on request from the duty volunteer Steward.

Village Walk Booklet

When you visit you might like to buy a copy of our village walk booklet and go on a historical walk around Whimple.

Just £2 from our Heritage Centre gift shop, the adjacent New Fountain Inn, or Whimple Stores located in the village square.

Stout shoes are recommended as some of the paths can get muddy after periods of inclement weather.

Our Archive

We have an extensive archive of documents and photographs relating to the history of Whimple.
Whether you are researching your family tree or some other aspect of Whimple history, we may be able to help.

Our archivist and the supporting team will do their best to answer written enquiries, and you are also welcome to visit* and view our archives in person by appointment.  Various charges for consulting our archive (payable in advance) are applicable.

Please use the Contact Us form to arrange this.

* Please note that the archive is located on the 1st floor of the building and is not wheelchair accessible. However by prior appointment with our Archivist we will endeavour to accommodate anyone with reduced mobility wishing to consult the archive by bringing records down to the ground floor for easy viewing.
